Trivia

  • In the European ties held during the week Scotland’s clubs did well. In the European Cup Dundee defeated Sporting Lisbon 4-1 to go through 4-2 on aggregate. In the Fairs Cities Club (which had seen Celtic knocked out by Valencia in the first round) Dunfermiline beat Everton 2-0 to go through 2-1 on aggregate. In the Cup Winners Cup Rangers were beaten 5-2 by Tottenham at White Hart Lane.
  • An unchanged side for Celtic. Willie Fernie had been due to play for St Mirren but when warming up a rusty nail had penetrated his flat training shoes and he was unable to play.

Review

This was an assured and a confident performance from the team. Stevie Chalmers had a special day and was outstanding scoring three goals and stood out. His first goal was an individual effort. He made the second for Divers. And on halftime he headed Celtic into a 3 goal lead.
MacKay struck a penalty given when Divers was brought down in the area. Price got the fifth and Gallacher finished off the scoring just before the final whistle. In the last quarter of an hour Mackay was off the field and both Price and Byrne were limping with injuries.
