Trivia

  • Partick Thistle were on a run and had risen to 2nd in the League table. This would be their eigth win in a row. For Celtic supporters, the misery of home form continued with just one win out of 6 home games.
  • Celtic played an unchanged team from the one that had played in the Glasgow Cup in midweek. Bobby Craig was out with a toe injury.
  • At Clyde a young 18 y.o. from Brunswick BC made his debut for the team – Harry Hood would go on to join Celtic in 1969.
  • The young reserves were in action in the Combined Reserve League against Dumbarton Reserves. The team was A. N. Other (possibly either Richard Madden or Ian Leckie), Craig (possibly first appearance of Jim Craig), John Parkes, 'Newman' (probably Jim Brogan or Frank McCarron), John Cushley, Bobby Symington, Frank Brogan, Peter Gowans, John Veitch, Ramsey Brown, ? Murray. They lost 4-0.

Review

Celtic played poorly and without luck. In front of goal they were content to pass rather than shoot and much of the movement came through the centre of the field rather than out wide. In the second minute Haffey was surprised by a 30 yard shot from Hogan. Somehow the ball squirmed under his body and over the line for a goal. Cowan's goal on 26 minutes came when his shot spun off Kennedy wrong-footing Haffey. In the second half Thistle concentrated on defense and the game became decidedly dull with Celtic content to pass rather than shoot.
