Trivia

  • With all the bad weather still affecting Scotland and the ability still to play in Ireland where the pitches had been less affected, Celtic had arranged to play a Friendly in Belfast on Thursday 28th February against Glentoran. They sailed over by boat taking the 15 players that had played in the other Friendly played against Morton in Dublin. The game was played in the afternoon at The Oval, Belfast.
  • Billy McNeill did not play due to a leg strain.
  • Celtic took only their tavelling expenses from the gate receipts and the profits went to Glentoran

Sean Fallon,
"I reckon this one game was worth a month of training without match practise. We had a great game and the fans loved every minute of it, especially as they saw nine goals – five for Celtic and four for their own boys. We gave all our players in our party a chance to get in some practise – and I am not kidding you, I was delighted when Glentoran scored two quick second half goals. We were leading 3-1 at half time – and if things had gone as usual with such a score we would have coasted through the last three quarters of an hour. But once Glentoran got their goals we had to fight and that made every man on the field work hard. The visit was definetly Celtic's best investment since the start of the big freeze-up."
