Trivia

  • The A Reserves were in action against Falkirk A. The team was Fallon; J Young, Kennedy; Henderson, Cushley, Price; Johnstone, Murdoch, R Young, Gallacher, Jeffrey. They were 4-0 up at half time and eventually won 6-0.
  • On return from Switzerland John McNamee found himself suspended by the SFA. This gave a chance for Jim Brogan to make his debut for the first team with his brother at outside right. The nearest brothers-that-played were John and Billy McPhail but they never played together in a first team match
  • As above, two brothers playing for Celtic in the same team, Jim Brogan & Frank Brogan

Review

Celtic came up against a well organised Falkirk team and despite numerous changes in the forward positions they could not find a way through. Hughes was caught offside time and again. Falkirk scored the only goal of the match half an hour into the second half with a 25 yard shot from their captain, Fulton. Billy Mcneill was strangely out of sorts in the game.

At the end of the first month of League play with four games played Celtic found themselves in a rather inauspicious position
