Trivia

  • Billy McNeill was out with 'flu. On the Friday Frank Haffey also called off with 'flu. The absence of these two caused wholesale changes to the team. In came John Fallon in goal; Duncan MacKay moved up to right half with Jim Kennedy brought in at left half; Ian Young was brought in at right back; up front Jimmy Johnstone was restored to the right wing, and Bobby Murdoch was restored at inside right. Jim Kennedy was captain for the day.
  • Jock Stein had rebuilt the Dunfermiline team into a good blend of youth and experience which had paid dividends this season. They sat at the top of the League as joint leaders with Rangers and were undefeated this season.
  • Outside left Bobby Jeffrey was transferred to Airdrie on the 4th October.
  • Another ex-Celt Willie Fernie was at this time playing at inside left for Alloa Athletic.

Review

Celtic started well and Murdoch had the ball in the net on seven minutes. However having gone one down Dunfermiline upped their rate and had the ebetter of the rest of the half with Fallon having a bit of a mare in goal. celtic pushed hard for a second goal at the start of the second half. After six minutes a Johnstone corner flew right over to frank Brogan and his shot was defelected into the net. Dunfermiline came back again and struck two gaols to share the points.
