Trivia

  • Paddy Turner was listed in the team for Tynecastle. He had been out since 5th October initially with an injury but his place in the forward line had largely been filled by John Divers who played a role sitting deeper. In the end he didn't play. Billy McNeill was out with a cold with Cushley stepping in, and John Hughes was out with a leg knock allowing Bobby Lennox in.
  • The papers had ex-Celt Mike Jackson who had been transferred to St Johnstone back in April 1963 in a swap deal for Max Murray of Third Lanark.

Review

A tense game throughout between two evenly matched sides. hearts took the lead on 22 minutes when White took a pass from Wallace and beat Fallon with a rising shot, the ball going in off the post. Four minutes from half time Divers put Celtic level with a spectacul;ar goal. He neatly tricked a defender then took the ball to the edge of the box before letting loose with a hard rising shot which gave Cruickshank no chance. Hearts were down to 10 men for the second half when Polland took a leg knock.
