Trivia

  • And so to Cathkin Park the day after another unlucky defeat to the auld rival. Billy McNeill and John Clark were both out injured in the Ne'erday game. In came Jim Brogan and John Cushley. With Bobby Murdoch out injured too the forward line was rejigged with Charlie Gallacher coming in at inside left. All three players were out with ankle knocks.

Review

Celtic started at full speed and pounded the Thirds goal in the first ten minutes. Then Thirds scored. They broke fast and Graham provided a needle sharp pass that took out Gemmell and there was Murray to shoot home. Celtic piled on the pressure but just like the previous day the ball would not go into the net. And just like the previous day Celtic appeared to have a perfectly good claim for a penalty turned down by the referee when Hughes went down from a McCormick tackle.
The second half started with Thirds nearly doubling their lead. The play was more even with attacks at both ends of the ground. Celtic were too often offside but in the 65th minute a Hughes shot rebounded off the post and there was Divers to put the rebound away.
