  • There were no injury worries for the tie following the mid-week game against East Fife. However before the game Cushley was ruled out with a leg strain and Jim Kennedy moved to centre half with Jim Brogan coming in at left half.
  • Billy McNeill came out of hospital after an operation to sort out his chipped ankle.
  • The A Reserves played Dundee Utd A Reserves with a team of Simpson; Halpin, O'Neill; Henderson, McCluskey, Cattanach; Curley, Aird, McCallum, Gillan, Lennox.
  • At inside right for Dundee Utd was Celtic reject and son of the Celtic Trainer, Benny Rooney , who had looked to be on the edge of a first team appearance till Steve Chalmers emerged.

Review

The first half was busy with both teams having chances and attacking and defending well. The evenness was reflected in the goalless score at half time.
In the second half Dundee Utd went ahead after an Ian Young mistake but Celtic pulled one back with an excellent equaliser from Steve Chalmers.
