Trivia

  • The only change from the team beaten in midweek was the return of John Clark at right half.
  • Airdrie were bottom of the league and without a single win

Review

An unexciting first half where the team appeared sapped of energy and verve. By the half time whistle went it was still goalless and the slow handclaps were starting around the ground. By this time Gallacher was limping and Gemmell had had to receive trackside attention for an ankle knock. Gallacher went to outside left with Lennox moving inside. Clark too went off early after a tackle.
The second half began without John Clark and with Gallacher limping on the left wing. When Clark reappeared it was at outside right with Johnstone moving in one and Murdoch dropping back. Gemmell was booked for persistent fouling. Finally Chalmers beat Samson with a shot from 20 yards and four minutes later he added a second. Reid pulled one back for Airdrie just before the end.
A torrid match.

A disappointing month for Celtic where they had been as high as second in the table. Both the League Cup final loss to Rangers and the league loss to Kilmarnock were sorely felt and brought back the 'tinkering' with team selection again.
