Trivia

  • Tommy Gemmell and Bobby Murdoch were both injured in the previous game against Dunfermiline, Gemmell's injury being more serious. He missed the game, his first absence of the season. In came Willie O'Neill at left back. In the forwards the left side was altered Divers and Lennox coming in.
  • Celtic appointed a new director to the board. This was solicitor James Farrell. He joined chaiman Robert Kelly, secretary Desmond White and Tom Devlin.
  • The game went ahead despite snow falling over most of Scotland making it a white Christmas. Hay had been laid over the pitch at Celtic Park and though this cleared away well the ground was still frozen hard and tricky.

Review

Celtic won the game but at the cost of seeing Bobby Murdoch being stretchered off the field ten minutes from the end with a leg injury. John Hughes got both goals, the first a lob over the goalkeeper from a Murdoch pass and thge second a decent shot again from a Murdoch pass, whilst wearing what was described as 'baseball boots'. The Dunfermiline – Rangers game was postponed due to snow and this had an effect on the table at the end of 1964.
