Trivia

  • Jimmy Johnstone paid the price for his sending off at Ibrox and was out of the team. Bobby Murdoch, who had played well at Ibrox but missed the vital penalty which would have levelled the scores was also out with a groin injury. In came Lennox and Maxwell on the right hand side.

Review

Despite the displeasure the crowd felt at the non-appearance of Jimmy Johnstone, they were brought to life in the fourth minute when Hughes latched onto a poor pass back and scored. Celtic played hard and fast on an icy but playable pitch and had most of the first half. Clyde did manage to equalise just before the interval and Celtic found themselves level when they should have been several goals in front. Clyde were a different team in the second half and the match ended at 1-1.
