- Hibernian appointed Bob Shankly, brother of Bill at Liverpool, and then Dundee manager, as the replacement for Jock Stein. This in theory left Stein free to takeover at Celtic.
- Queen's Park played in a strip of white jerseys edged with black. Celtic played in an all green top, shorts and socks.
- This was the first meeting between the two clubs in the Scottish Cup since 1927-28 season which Celtic had won 2-1.
- Played at Hampden.
- Celtic continued with the unchanged team that had done so well of late.

Review
The Celts had a much harder game here against the pert-timers of Queen's Park than they had against the professionals of St Mirren in the previous round. Bobby Clark in the Queen's goal had a busy day and did well making some superb saves from all the Celtic players. Celtic piled the pressure on but could not find a way past Clark. Queen's were solid in defense but lacked punch up front.
In the second half Bertie Auld was unlucky not to score with a shot headed off the line and one hitting the post. It took till the 60th minute for Lennox to make the breakthrough when he picked up a clearance and shot home from 12 yards.
