Trivia

  • The team came through the weekend game against Third Lanark without any injuries. Jock Stein continued to box clever with the media saying that the only determined position was Billy McNeill at centre half. He took 16 players to Easter Road for this Wednesday night tie and in the end used the same team that had played against Third Lanark.

Review

Celtic pretty much put pay to Hibs League title aspirations with this win at Easter Road. A completely different performance from the game 16 days before which had seen Hibernian beat Celtic 4-2 at Celtic Park. In a five minute period in the first half Celtic scored twice through Chalmers and Murdoch to make it 3-0 at half time. Hibs had started well but as soon as Auld got the opening goal it turned into a more even contest with Celtic going on to gain the upper hand and look completely the more comfident and dominant side. Hibernian missed a penalty awarded when Tommy Gemmell brought down Martin.
