Review

Rangers were unfortunate when they were reduced to 9 men through injury when Rodger Hynd (ankle) was taken off and immediately went to hospital, and George McLean (gashed shin) did not reappear for the second half. This was in the days before substitutes and they could not be replaced. Goalkeeper Martin was also injured (broken finger) saving a shot from John Hughes but played in the number 2 jersey with Davie Provan going in goals. Due to his injury Martin was played up front as an auxiliary striker.

Despite the set backs Rangers played well with winger Davie Wilson excelling at left back and McLean resuming after 63 minutes. Rangers in fact opened the scoring with a shot from Willie Henderson.

Auld scored for Celtic in 77 minutes when Provan let his shot slip past him before Chalmers scored the winner after Gemmell's shot had struck the post.
