Trivia

  • Again an unchanged side for Celtic. Bertie Auld and Steve Chalmers must have wondered what they had to do to get back into the first team let alone John Divers.
  • The League Cup was paraded at half time.
  • Stirling Albion played in an all white strip, whilst Celtic played in their change strip of all green.
  • The game was watched by the Aarhus manager Henry From on a scouting trip before the ECWC second round tie.

Review

Stirling Albion came to defend and it took till the 28th minute to unpick the defense when Bobby Murdoch hit a 20 yarder into the top corner. Four minutes later McBride made it two. McBride robbed the goalkeeper just before time to give a tap in for Hughes and there was still time for Fyfe to pull one back for the Binos with a header.
In the second half a good move involving Johnstone and McBride saw Hughes get his second goal quickly followed by his hatrick from the spot when Reid brought down Johnstone in the area. McBride finished off with a goal twelve minutes from time.

An excellent month for Celtic having won the League Cup and drawn only one game this month – the League Cup semi final agianst Hibernian. They stood second in the League with a game in hand behing the auld enemy.
