Trivia

  • Billy McNeill was out with a knee injury. In came Cushley. John Hughes had recovered from his injury and returned with Bertie Auld missing out. In came Stevie Chalmers at centre forward with Joe McBride moving to inside right replacing Chrlie Gallacher.
  • The first real cold snap of the winter hit Scotland with frost and frozen ground throughout. The pitch at Celtic Park was protected from the weather with a 15 ton layer of hay which kept the ground warm and unfrozen.
  • Celtic played in change strip of all green.

Review

A goal from Joe McBride seven minutes from the final whistle secured all the points for Celtic in this hard fought match. There was no scoring in the first half. Killie took the lead on 57 minutes. John Hughes equalised from the penalty spot when the Killie goalkeeper was punished for pushing over Steve Chalmers. McBride got the winner with a great shot seven minutes from time. Kilmarnock had McGrory and O'Connor booked.

Again another good month for Celtic with qualification through to the quarter finals of the European Cup Winners Cup, with just one draw in the league at home to Partick Thistle. They stood second in the league three points behind Rangers with a game in hand.
