Review

Bad finishing let Celtic down on the night. Murdoch and Auld created a stream of chances but the forwards, Chalmers, Hughes and McBride were all off form and passed up the opportunities that came their way.

Rangers, inspired by the veteran Jimmy Millar at half back, defended resolutely and they scored in 70 minutes. Henderson's shot was cleared off the line by Murdoch and fell to Kai Johansen 20 yards out. The full back hit an unstoppable shot past Simpson for one of the most dramatic cup final goals ever.

Even then Celtic pressed until the end and further chances were passed up before the final whistle went.
