Review

Hot-shot McBride k.o.'s Hibs: Celtic brushed aside Hibs' championship challenge at Easter Road this afternoon and Joe McBride, back at inside right, helped himself to four goals in Celtic's emphatic victory. So Celtic are high and dry at the top of the table tonight, and they are there thanks to a great display of attacking football and a shrewd gamble by manager Jock Stein. Mr Stein tested the Easter Road going before naming his team, and finding the going soft he gambled on McBride's strength being a telling factor in this flag fight. With wee Jimmy Johnstone back at his jinking best and having a hand in three of McBride's goals there was really no stopping Celts. They survived a 10-minute goal by Peter Cormack for Hibs and, gradually getting on top, they simply wore down the Easter Road defence. Here's there goal time-table — McBride (15), Chalmers (30), McBride (42, 43, and 74). Joe Davis, from a penalty, and McGraw, in the last second got Hibs' other goals. [Evening Times – Oct 8, 1966]
