Review

Airdrie said they had a plan to contain Celtic. So Jock Stein mixed it up and changed the team order. Ian Young was retained from the Glasgow Cup game along with Charlie Gallacher. Jimmy Johnstone dropped to the bench. Lennox and Chalmers played together and Bertie Auld and Bobby Murdoch were rested.
This turned out to be an excellent game with Airdrie matching Celtic in the first half. They wilted in the second half when Celtic’s superior fitness told and Joe McBride got the opener from a Chalmers opening on 65 minutes. Three minutes later Lennox added a second from a Gemmell cross and he popped up to add a third three minutes from time.
