Review

League Cup group deciding game.
This was one of the all time classic Glasgow derby matches and one of the greatest games played by Jock Stein's Celtic team. Stein fielded the eleven men who won the European Cup in Lisbon three months earlier.
Henderson opened the scoring with a suspiciously offside looking goal in 8 minutes and Celtic tried hard to find an equaliser to no avail.
It looked all over in 76 minutes when Clark sent Henderson sprawling and a penalty was given.
Kai Johansen took it and blasted it against the crossbar and the ball was grabbed by a grateful Ronnie Simpson as Alex Ferguson waited to pounce.
Celtic went into overdrive with this new opportunity. Wallace equalised in a crowded area after a corner and in 83 minutes Murdoch sent a typical thunderbolt shot past Sorensen and sent the Celtic fans into ecstacy. Murdoch turned cartwheels of delight on the Parkhead turf.

With Rangers attacking at the death Lennox intercepted a slack pass and raced clear to score with a shot in off the post.

Celtic fans, though mentally drained, remained long after the final whistle singing their songs of victory.

Celtic were not only Champions of Europe but still Scotland's best also.

'We are the team in Scotland…we shall not be moved !'
