1968-05-11: Inverness Select 1-6 Celtic, Testimonial

Match Pictures | Matches: 1967 1968 | 1967-68 Pics

Trivia

  • This Benefit game in Inverness was arranged for the gap between the end of the 1967-68 season and the departure for the USA, Canada and Mexico tour.
  • The Benefit was in favour of the dependents of Andy Mitchell.
  • Ronnie Simpson was away playing with the Reserves at Ashington outside of Newcastle. The U19s had all been prepared to go on a tour to Italy during the closed season and this was meant to be a warm-up game for that tour.
  • Jimmy Johnstone was excused the tour of America. This was more than likely due to his great fear of flying and the rigours of the season he had just completed. Jimmy Quinn benefitted from this and was included in the American tour party.

Review

Bobby Wraith, a young goalkeeper recently signed by Celtic from Dalry Thistle, came on in goal for the second half
