Lennox has burst onto Connolly’s through ball, held off Mathieson’s challenge, with McKinnon moving in, and fired home Celtic’s second goal in the 4-0 cup final, April 26, 1969. I was about half-way up the Celtic end at this game, and every time we attacked, there was a huge sway forward. As this goal went in, there was a massive rush forward, and I was knocked off my feet…I just scrambled back up, when Lennox hit another rocket just over the bar, prompting another surge. Again, I just got upright in time to see George Connelly waltzing round Norrie Martin (having robbed John Greig from the resultant bye-kick) and rolling the ball into the empty net….WHOOSHHHH!!!! down we went again!! it was utterly surreal. My equilibrium was severely strained, and I seriously wondered if the third goal was an action replay of the second, then in the same moment, I realised – no, this is really happening, I’m here in the flesh…I was 16, I was with all my pals, I’d had a few cans of Guinness, I was watching my heroes hand out the biggest hiding to rangers since the 7-1 game, and I felt like the king of the world! my only minor regret is that Wallace hit the bar with a looping header in the second half, when Norrie Martin mis-punched a clearance straight to him. We took our foot off the gas after the 4th goal, which emptied the Mount Florida end faster than Stevie Wonder with a flame thrower. Rangers attempted to halt the shame, but were herded up the track and away. It should have been 5 or 6. Happy days!Flynn

The above photo was taken during the second half (old South Stand visible in background) with Celtic attacking the Hun end at Hampdump. Big Billy scored in the first minute shooting into the Celtic end. the head butt occurred mid way – certainly not in the early stages – during the first half while Rangers were attacking the Celtic goal – the stand in the background is the old South Stand and Celtic were defending the goal at the Rangers end. The score at the time was still 1-0 – but not for long – as the song goes. Alex Ferguson’s Last game for Rangers.
