Trivia

  • Celtic were showing signs of a little pressure. The result the previous weekend had thrown doubt into peoples' minds as to whether this seemingly invincible team which had good resources in reserve was up to it. The Dunfermiline game had been followed by the goalless draw in the League Cup quarter final at Pittodrie.
  • Back in came a fit-again Jimmy Johnstone. Harry Hood, who was carrying a leg knock moved out one and Tommy Callaghan dropped to the bench. Davie Hay retained his place at right back. Billy McNeill was also carrying a knock from the Aberdeen game but fit enough to play.
  • Hibs came to Parkhead and won well with young Peter Marinello in outstanding form.
  • Ayr beat Rangers 2-1 at Somerset Park.
  • The draw for the League Cup semi final was made with either Celtic or Aberdeen drawn to face either Dumbarton or Ayr Utd at home.
  • The Reserves played at Easter Rd with 'Newman', McGrain, Gorman, Dalglish, Clarke, Brogan, Wilson, Davidson, Hughes, Macari, Auld with Cattanach as sub. They drew 2-2.

Review

A tight first half which saw Jimmy Johnstone score after a mix-up in the Hibs defense and at the interval the fans were entertained with the news that Rangers were losing to Ayr Utd.
Hibs came out and immediately took the smile off the faces of the Celtic supporters when, after good work from Marinello and Stevenson, Hamilton out the ball past Fallon to level the score. Celtic were missing in front of goal and as the game went on Hibs grew stronger and more confident. With 9 minutes left Tommy Callaghan replaced Harry Hood but he could do little to stop Hibs taking the lead through a well struck Pat Stanton shot that streaked past Fallon.
