Trivia

  • This was the rearranged game from the 22nd November which had been called off due to torrential rain. This was played on the Monday night.
  • As planned, Evan Williams made his league debut. Jimmy Johnstone was out with a neck injury picked up in the Morton game.
  • This win took Celtic to second in the table behind Hibernian by three points with a game in hand.

Review

Evan Williams might have been making his league debut but it was another future Celtic goalkeeper in Denis Connaghan in the St Mirren goal that had the busier and stand-out night.
Celtic started off at their customary heady pace testing Connaghan time and time again and Williams was untroubled for over 20 minutes. Bertie Auld was the general up front carefully guiding and making great passes which failed to be put away. Lou Macari got the goals stealing in to pinch one just before half time and getting the second on restart from a Bertie Auld corner.
