Review

An adequate performance from Celtic. An early goal from Jimmy Johnstone set the Bhoys up when the ball cannoned off of him and into the goal. Lennox added a second before half time but Airdrie managed to pull one back when Marshall was at the far post to nick one in.
At 2-1 at the start of the second half there was still all to play for and Airdrie got an equaliser when Cowan hit a good shot. Soon after Davie Hay was replaced by Harry Hood with Wallace moving back to midfield. By this time Caldwell had been stretchered off after a clash with Jinky and Marshall for Airdrie was carrying a knee injury which would see him eventually head to the Victoria Infirmary after the game. Celtic poured on the power and attacked relentlessly. The goal came from Jimmy Johnstone when the powered in a shot that had come back off a post. And just before the end Willie Wallace added a fourth.
