  • Ronnie Simpson announced his retirement through injury on the day that Celtic met Feyenord in the European Cup Final. He had just been elected as an independent candidate in the municipal elections for Corstorphine in Edinburgh.
  • The Celtic party of 30 returned to Glasgow from the lost European Cup Final in Milan a disheartened and dismayed team on the Friday morning. They left again for America on the Sunday 10th from Prestwick to Montreal with a local flight on to Toronto arriving at 7.00pm on the same evening after 20 hours travelling. They were greeted on arrival by 200 local Celtic supporters.
  • Brogan, Hughes and Johnstone remained in Scotland due to injury.
    • Jock Stein said, "This tour means a lot to us. We know after Wednesday we've got to give our fans something to talk about. They took our European Cup defeat well. Review

Celtic played a 4-3-3 formation with Macari, Lennox and Hood up front. In the 11th minute the ball hit McNeill's knees to go into the net. Celtic despite the own goal held their own in the first half. In the second half Manchester Utd, despite missing Charlton and Stiles who were in Mexico for the World Cup with the England party, broke loose and scored again through Aston in the final ten minutes.
