Trivia

  • Celtic left Toronto for New York on the Monday 18th following the madcap game against Bari. Jim Craig, as the Evening Times' correspondent on the tour gives the opponents as the 'Boston Irish Select' for this game.
  • Transfer news was talk of the papers back in Scotland with talk of a speculative bid of £200,000 for Jimmy Johnstone and Tommy Gemmell's transfer request still on the table. Jimmy Johnstone was of course at home in Uddingston and said he knew nothing of it and didn't want to move but was known to be in negotiations with Celtic on a new contract which had started immediately after the return from the European Cup Final in Milan.
  • Sean Fallon, in charge due to the departure of Stein, sent Gemmell and Auld home to Scotland from New York for an alleged misdemeanour at the Irish-American club in Kearney, New Jersey on Monday 18th May. David Cattanach flew out to join the Celtic party in Boston.
  • Both players were interviewed and reprimanded by Stein on 21st May.
