1970-05-24: Bermuda XI 1-7 Celtic, Friendly

Trivia

  • The squad moved on to Bermuda from New York on the 23rd May.
  • Back in Scotland the question of the transfers of Jimmy Johnstone and Tommy Gemmell loomed like an elephant in the room. Jinky had demanded an up front lumpo sum and an increase in wages after the return from the European Cup final otherwise he would not play for Celtic again. Stein had flown back from the American tour to deal with the issue. Despite interest there were no firm offers on the table and it looked increasingly like a game of brinkmanship was being played between the players and the club.
  • Wallace played sweeper in a 4-2-4 formation.
  • Jock Stein was fine £10 and severely censured by the SFA following criticism of referee Bobby Davidson after the SCF in April.
