Review

Finnish fans were disappointed that Jimmy Johnstone was ill with a high temperature after having travelled on a plane for 5 hours.

This was little more than a training exercise for Celtic who fielded a number of fringe players. Despite it being the first day of October the players had to endure freezing temperatures and a biting wind.
Each time the Finns got near the goal their fans cheered loudly in appreciation of their team's efforts.
Celtic could have scored more as the game went on but where content to pass and move. It was a huge bonus for Stein to see Steve Chalmers back in the team after his leg break a year earlier.

European Cup holder Feyenoord were knocked out on this day by UT Arad of Rumania.
Rangers were also knocked out of the ECWC by Bayern Munich at Ibrox.
