Trivia

  • Far from being dismayed with the League Cup Final result it was straight back to business. On the Monday night the Reserves played Hearts Reserves – another chance to give Tommy Gemmell a run out and assess the ankle injury. Jim Brogan was back in training but Tommy Callaghan was still injured as was John Hughes.
  • Jock Stein left team selection to just before kick off. In the end Gemmell was left out and Jimmy Quinn droipped out with Davie Cattanach preferred and Lennox preferred to Macari who was on the bench.
  • A miserable night after constant rain in Glasgow and a treacherous pitch.
  • Celtic win after being two goals down.

Review

On a horrible cold, wet night Celtic had to dig deep in their resources to win.

Hearts were deservedly two goals up from the excellent Ford but when Murdoch began to dictate the midfield Hearts started to crumble.

Wallace scored twice and hit the bar and it was the in form Harry Hood who scored the vital third after great work by Jimmy Johnstone,
