Trivia

  • Jock Stein announces he will fly to London on Monday to receive the CBE from the Queen at Buckingham Palace.
  • Celtic announced a home friendly game against world club champions Feyenoord at Parkhead on February 9th. Celtic had lost to Feyenoord in the previous season's European Cup final. Feyenoord then went on to claim the World Club championship defeating Estudiantes.
  • Jimmy Johnstone does not play despite being fit. Johnstone told Stein he did not want to play and rumours abound that Jinky may have asked for a transfer. As a punishment he is refused permission to travel to Lisbon to play in Benfica star Mario Coluna's testimonial.
  • Evan Williams was rested with John Fallon in goal. Vic Davidson came in for Jinky and Harry Hood started with Bobby Lennox missing out. The ever-present George Connelly was on the bench.
  • Celtic play in yellow shirts, green socks and yellow socks.

Review

Gemmell scores early with a trade mark thundering shot.
Celtic only click when Davidson is moved inside from the right wing and he scores two fine goals.

Jim Craig and Willie Wallace have fine games.

At the end of the month Celtic still topped the table by a point from Aberdeen.
