  • Both Jimmy Johnstone and Bobby Murdoch were absent with colds but considered well enough to play for the Reserves! Wallace and Dalglish were restored to the starting line-up with Harry Hood who had scored a hatrick against Clydebank dropped.
  • Sir Robert Kelly's funeral took place in Rutherglen on 24th September. Over 1500 attended including the Celtic Board and management and the signed players along with a delegation from Rangers and many past Celtic players including John and Billy McPhail, Pat Crerand, Bertie Peacock, Joe McBride, Bertie Auld and John Cushley. Others attending included Liverpool manager Bill Shankly, ex-Rangers Manager Scott Symon and many managers of other Scottish clubs. He was buried in Stevenston cemetery.

Celtic played sharp incisive football and Airdrie were rarely in it. Macari hit a great hatrick and Lennox and Dalglish chipped in with one apiece.
