Trivia

  • Lou Macari's ankle injury was proving more troublesome than thought and he was sent to see a specialist. He was given the all-clear and started light training but was not fit enough to return to the team.
  • Dalglish and Connelly both made it back to fitness. In a move to perk up the midfield, Dalglish was moved back to midfield and Tommy Callaghan went back up front. Bobby Lennox was also brought back in in Macari's absence to provide a striker with an opportunistic nose for goal. Brogan and Paul Wilson missed out.
  • A deal for Tommy Gemmell to head to Nottingham Forest apparently fell through this week. The two clubs had been in negotiation but it looked as if the English club failed to match what Gemmell had been prepared to accept. However on the 17th the deal was finally done and Gemmell moved south for around £30,000.
  • Dixie Deans was asked to perform a pre match draw for Motherwell on his return visit to Fir Park and also managed to score.

Review

At £20,000 Dixie Deans was looking the bargain of the season with 5 goals in four games. He got the opener on ten minutes – a header from a Harry Hood free kick. Dalglish then added a double, the first being a great solo effort. And Johnstone and Lennox completed the scoring in the second half.
