Disputed goal saves Celtic from defeat

Dundee 1, Celtic 1

Only a disputed goal by Dixie Deans gave Celtic a point in this final League match at Dens Park last night. Dundee, who had played some wonderful football in the first half, were forced to defend after the interval; but always, they played calm, controlled football. Celtic, on the other hand, will have to improve if they are to win their Scottish Cup final against Hibs on Saturday.

Celtic started the match without Bobby Murdoch while Dundee fielded the same team which lost to St Johnstone on Saturday—with the exception of Bobby Ford on the left wing. In the 21st minute, Dundee went ahead with a magnificent goal. From their own goal-line, six Dundee players touched the ball before John Duncan sent a stupendous shot from 30 yards past a bewildered Williams.

Dundee should have gone farther ahead five minutes after the interval. However, both Duncan and Wallace missed the ball in front of an open goal.

Celtic came back into the match, and in the seventy-fifth minute they equalised. From a corner on the right, taken by Tom Callaghan, Dixie Deans scrambled the ball in, although Johnston seemed to have booted the ball clear. However, the linesman ruled there was a goal.

Ten minutes before the end Celtic had the ball in the net again, but the referee ruled Macari off-side.
