  • Dalglish hit the bar with a penalty after 83 minutes and so missed the chance to score the 6000th league goal.

Report

Everybody was hoping and waiting on Celtic's 6000th league goal but it was not to come this night. Killie made it harder for Celtic than the score suggests and Hunter made four good saves against his old team in difficult wet conditions. Kilmarnock for all their low position in the league, decided to make a game of it and played decent football rather than defending en masse.
Dalglish's first goal after 31 minutes had a strong hint of offside about it even though Deans waited to lay the ball into the path of Dalglish. The linesman flagged for offside and the referee ignored it. Kilmarnock protested and McSherry was booked.
There was no argument about the second with Callaghan sending over a corner, Deans nodding down and Jinky firing home.
In the second half Kilmarnock were further undone by another dubious goal when with McGrain taking the ball on and Jinky running diversion, the linesman flagged for offside and the Killie defense stopped. Callaghan didn't and having received the ball he turned and shot home. The goal stood.
Hood replaced Deans and he supplied the cross for Kenny Dalglish to head home the final goal. Then seven minute before the end Dalglish missed the penalty after Johnstone was pulled down in the area.

McGrain and Dalglish grab the head lines with terrific displays although Dalglish missed a penalty to spoil his night slightly.

Killie complain bitterly over Dalglish's first and Callaghan's goal after flags from the linesmen.
