Trivia

  • A Tuesday night game. Bobby Murdoch was out with a pulled thigh muscle which had seen him subbed against Aberdeen. Davie Hay and Danny McGrain also went on the table with knocks – McGrain for an ankle injury picked up against Aberdeen. Hay and McGrain both made it but Murdoch and Johnstone were both out and in came Paul Wilson.
  • The pressure was on to an extent as a win here would take Celtic to the top of the league above Rangers. Morton had just come off of a 6-0 hammering from Dundee.
  • Celtic go top but are greeted by boos after 90 minutes.
  • Stein – 'That wasn't the real Celtic, the real Celtic was against Aberdeen.'
  • Celtic play in yellow shirts, green shorts and yellow socks.

Review

Paul Wilson comes in and scores the vital goal that takes Celtic to top of the table. Wilson impressed and hit the bar also on a bitterly cold spring night.
Even so it was a bit of an off-key win with too many passes going uncharacteristically astray and woeful shooting. After their big defeat Morton defended far better this night with a strong back line. Too many forwards had an off night and Lennox and Wilson were the most effective. Wilson got the goal at the end of a frustrating first half from a corner.

Not a bad result considering Celtic were missing the talents of Brogan, Murdoch, Johnstone, Callaghan and McCluskey, but Celtic could and would play better than this.
