Trivia

  • Heavy snow spreads across the country and this is the only first division game to be played.
  • On the Tuesday morning David Hay relented and returned to Celtic Park to train. He was included in the Reserve squad which were due to play at Celtic Park. Their game was cancelled due to frost.
  • The SFA turned down two Testimonial requests which would have involved thew Scotland team. One was for Billy McNeill and the other was for Billy Bremner.
  • Geir Karlsen, the Rosenborg keeper who had been a Trialist at Celtic Park joined Dunfermiline after being offered better terms by the Fife club.
  • Dixie Deans was fit again from his back injury but not risked for the game. Paul Wilson continued but Bobby Lennox was missing and Jimmy Johnstone started in his place.

The fuel and energy crisis was starting to kick in really strongly, coinciding with bitterly cold weather and snow, with preparations made to issue petrol coupons.

Review

For 70 minutes Celtic were in total control through Dalglish's excellent goal when he wriggled past two defenders and thrashed the ball past Marshall.

However Sellars equalised and it looked ominous for Celts until Wilson sent Johnstone racing down the wing and ran 3 yards to score from Johnstone's return ball.
