Review

Celtic were still finding their feet in the season but this was the night when everything clicked into place. This time the forwards all clicked and chances when they came were put away.
Glavin scored in the first minute with a powerful shot from the edge of the area and this was an example of the power shooting he was to demonstrate throughout the season. United came back strongly and McAdam had a goal disallowed for a marginal offside decision.
Celtic started the second half strongly and new striker Joe Craig scored with a great finish when one on one with the keeper after a great Dalglish pass split the defence.
Celtic went into overdrive and Glavin completed his hat trick with two fine goals and the veteran Bobby Lennox rounded it off with a fifth.
Celtic fans left the ground singing loudly and raving about Ronnie Glavin's hat trick.
Jock Stein had at last found the right balance and would admit at the end of the season that this game was the turning point.
