Trivia

  • Bobby Lennox was back in training and looking good after just 10 weeks from breaking his leg.
  • Roy Aitken and Tommy Burns played for Scotland U21s on the Wednesday night prior against Wales at Hampden.
  • Joe Craig had recovered from the leg injury that had kept him out of the Scotland U21 squad. Thus Celtic fielded an unchangerd squad with MacDonald still out with a thigh strain and Edvaldsson retaining his spot.
  • Dundee United come from 2-0 down to beat Rangers 3-2 at Ibrox.
  • Ex-Celt Willie Wallace after a short spell in Australia had returned to Dumbarton where he was still a retained player.
  • John McCluskey and Tommy McGrain were named in the Scotland U18 side

Review

Bertie Auld's Thistle disappointed the large crowd with their defensive attitude and lack of adventure. Alan Rough had a tremendous game and kept Celtic at bay until late on when Glavin's now trademark thunderbolt free kick and Dalglish's fine header give Celtic the points.
The fans come in for praise from Jock Stein. Despite having to wait for 66 minutes for the opening goal they backed the team all the way.
