  • Left back Andy Lynch was out and in came Tommy Burns who had already played here once before.

  • Latchford saved a penalty from Somner on 54 minutes which would have put the Jags level at that point.

Review

The game was played in heavy rain.
Conn opened the scoring in 41 minutes after showing great control and finishing with a glorious shot after Joe Craig had sent him clear. He had struck up a great relationship with Kenny Dalglish and both men had been denied by Alan Rough before Conn's goal.

Tommy Burns impressed in the strange role of left back and Doyle scored Celtic's second after lead up work from Burns and Dalglish.

In the final minutes McQuade had an astonishing miss from right under the crossbar and with the game's last attack Somner scored a consolation goal for Thistle. However this night belonged to Alfie Conn and he left the field to a rapturous ovation.
