Review

Ex Celt Mike Jackson brought his side to Parkhead and played in a fine attacking style. Only after an hour did the Dumfries side capitulate and the score is slightly misleading.

The game turned after a cross from Queens' Ferrie beat Latchford and the ball flicked off a post to safety minutes from half time. Had that gone in then Queens would have been level but as it was they went in 3-1 down at the interval.

Ronnie Glavin was Scotland's form player and he proved it with a fine hat trick. His opening goal was a tap in after a great chip from Kenny Dalglish had came off the bar. Queens' equaliser came from a corner and when there was confusion between Latchford and McGrain, Dickson nipped in to score a fine opportunist goal.

In 33 minutes Ferrie handled in the area and was booked for his trouble. Glavin cracked the ball past the keeper in his usual style and on half time Joe Craog made it 3-1.

Celtic wore the visitors down and Glavin scored again from the spot followed by a glorious fifth by Dalglish after a wonderful defence splitting pass from Pat Stanton. Young Celt Jim Casey made an appearance in the closing stages as Celtic wound down.

Queens fielded Chris Balderstone who had represented England in test cricket.
