  • Ex Celt Tommy Gemmell captains Dundee.
  • Future Celtic manager Gordon Strachan also plays for Dundee.
  • Highlights were shown on the BBC that night.
  • Bookies make Celtic 5/4 on to win the double.
  • The result meant that Rangers, whatever the result in the final, would see European football next season with Celtic odds on favourites to win the League and thus qualify for the European Cup.
  • In the Reserve League on the same night Celtic lost 3-2 to Raith Rovers at Starks Park. The Celtic team was Barclay, McGrane, Fairley, P .McCluskey, Newman, Casey, McLaughlin, Henderson, Temperley, Hannah, Gibson Subs Mackie and Innes. The Celtic scorers were Temperley and Hannah.

Review

Stubborn Dundee offer little in the way of adventure and go down to Joe Craig's two splendid opportunist goals. His first was the culmination of a great move from McGrain and Dalglish and he followed that up whilst Dundee were still trying to adjust with a tremendous flying header.

Before that Dundee had fought hard and attacked whenever they could with Strachan playing well for them. Celtic went off at a furious pace. In Donaldson, they found a keeper in form in the Dundeee goal and he denied shot after shot.
