Trivia

  • There were a few injuries from the Scottish Cup semi final against Dundee. Danny McGrain had taken a knock and was doubtful. More worrying was the injury to Kenny Dalglish. Dalglish failed to recover but McGrain took his place fit to play. Edvaldsson took over in midfield.
  • Celtic play in change strip of green shirts, white socks and green socks.
  • Danny McGrain is captain in the absence of Kenny Dalglish.
  • Kilmarnock were part timers and managed by ex-Celt Willie Fernie. They were bottom of the League at this point.

Review

Dalglish misses a rare game and his influence is missed but Conn is the inspiration behind this win.
Killie started well and took the game to Celtic with Scotland U21 and future Celt Davie Provan looking dangerous. The first half was a back-and-forth affair with both teams prepared to attack and bot having chances but it remained 0-0 at half time.
With no further progress in the second half Jock Stein replaced Doyle with Wilson and when this brought no change brough on Tommy Burns for Roy Aitken. This did the trick. Burns squared a pass for Joe Craig who shot home from 12 yards.
