Trivia

  • Bertie Auld's Jags players held up a banner prior to the match stating: "Congratulations! Welcome to the Champions!" An incredible touch by the opposition for Celtic. See pictures.
  • On the Monday after this game in the Reserve League Celtic defeated Queen of the South 7-3 at Palmerston Park. The Celtic team was Barclay, Innes, Hannah, McCluskey, Edvaldsson, Casey, Mackie, McLaughlin, Wilson, Lennox, Temperley Subs Newman and Newman. The Celtic scorers were McLaughlin 2, Wilson 2, Edvaldsson, Lennox and Mackie.
  • On the same day Celtic defeated Dundee 2-0 in a Reserve League match at Dens Park. The Celtic team was Baines, Gourlay, Innes, P. McCluskey, Edvaldsson, Casey, Mackie, McLaughlin, Temperley, Hannah, Lennox Subs Fairley and Godzik. The Celtic scorers were Lennox and Mackie.
  • On the following Sunday both of the Glasgow teams threw their doors open to the fans to meet the players and with guided tours of the back-room facilities. This was an initiative to try to beat the rising tide of football hooliganism. The day was marred by a series of muggings in the Bridgeton Cross area.

Review

Celtic, with the title now won, are well below par and Bertie Auld's Thistle are well worth a point.
A great move after 12 minutes saw Roy Aitken finish with a low hard shot. Doug Somner levelled for Thistle just before time direct from a corner kick.
