Trivia

  • Celtic were drawn against SWW Innsbruck in the next round of the European Cup.
  • Hibs played in unusual purple and white change strip. Their shirt was without their sponsors logo as TV cameras were present and at that time this quaint rule applied.
  • Hibs were the first Scottish side to feature sponsorship on their shirt – sportswear firm Bukta – against Celtic. Due to the ban on advertising on televised matches, Hibs had to wear this shirt without the "Bukta" logo for televised matches.
  • Danny McGrain is taken off with an ankle injury and will not play another league game until March 1979.
  • Casey and Lennox dropped to the bench replaced by Edvaldsson and McAdam. Casey had picked up a rib injury in Luxembourgh but was fit enough for the bench spot.
  • In the Reserve League on the same day Celtic defeated Hibs 3-2 at Easter Road. The Celtic team was Baines, McGrane, Lynch, McLaughlin, McWilliams, Ward, Doyle, Mackie, G. McCluskey, Dowie, Temperley Subs J. McCluskey and Godzik. George McCluskey scored Celtic's three goals.

Review

Hopes are that Celtic may now have turned the corner. Tommy Burns was exceptional with Glavin, Craig and McAdam not far behind.

Edvaldsson's goal on half time settled the team and in the second half they relaxed and played their best football of the season. The Hibs players protested the goal saying Edvaldsson was offside but the goal stood.

Burns created the second goal for Glavin with a great run and cross from the left and then he struck a glorious 30 yard pass for Craig to run on and score.

Despite Celtic's poor form 26,000 fans turned out and gave them great support.
