Trivia

  • This was third-from bottom against second-from-bottom and an important game to win.
  • Back in came Tom McAdam and Johannes Edvaldsson. Roy Aitken moved back to right back replacing Roy Kay.

Review

Despite a good start Celtic were 2-1 down at half time. Celtic went ahead early when Doyle set up McAdam whose low shot should have been saved by the keeper. Ayr hit back with two goals in three minutes on the quarter hour. Crammond beat Latchford at his near post, then McCall scored with a good solo run and shot.
In the second half they attacked constantly and MacDonald, who was always a threat in the air, scored a late winner, the headed goal coming from a free kick.

The win still left Celtic third from bottom but with a two point gap to Ayr.
