Review

From the start of the game it was evident to players and spectators alike that the slippery conditions were going to make the contest a bit of a lottery. Clydebank adjusted better and quicker to the conditions and created problems for the Celtic defenders, and with 13 minutes on the clock the home side took the lead in incredibly simple fashion. With the Celtic defense caught assuming the ball was going out of play Larnach hit the ball low and across goal and McCallan had a simple task to tap the ball into the net.

Celtic were unlucky not to get a penalty when Lumsden used an arm to control the ball but the referee astonishingly intimated that he had used his chest.

Six minutes before half time Celtic equalised Joe Filippi crossed high into the goalmouth and Roddy McDonald’s header looked a scorer until it hit the goalkeeper’s leg and rebounded out through a ruck of players. However Tom McAdam quickly seized on the opportunity to crack the ball high into the net.

As the fans discussed the events of the first half and contemplated what the second half would produce, the referee, following a consultation with his linesmen, abandoned the game much to the annoyance of the crowd.
