Review

Celtic played remarkably well given their injury problems and poor current form. In the early stages they dominated and should have had a considerable lead. Only eccentric refereeing costs Celtic victory. Young Roy Aitken is the best Celt afield and did not deserve to be on the losing side. Celtic deserved better than this and were the more exciting of the teams on view. But bad refereeing and poor finishing conspired to deny them and to lead to a third successive defeat.

The game opened up a complete debate on the poor standard of refereeing in Scotland with Jack Mowat, the senior referee in the game comparing it to a teak which had lost it's stars and was making do. That debate on the standard of Scottish referees continues to this day.
