Review

Burns' goal saves Celtic's blushes.
The Clyde team rose to the occasion and matched Celtic throughout the game making it tough. Clyde exploited the early season uncertainty of players and Celtic looked rusty. Clyde opened the scoring the first goal when an unmarked Ward collected a free kick and shot past Latchford. They then proceeded to match Celtic through the first half to go in ahead at half time.

After what was probably a rollicking of a half time talk Celtic upped their game in the second half. Conn, who looked the best player on the field, scored when he collected a free kick and waltzed past several defenders to shoot. But the winner had to wait till four minutes from the end when Tommy Burns shot home from a cross from Mackie.

A tense second leg at Shawfield was in the offing two nights later.
