Trivia

  • In came Andy Lynch back from suspension with also freed up Paul Wilson on the bench. Alan Sneddon who had done so well after his recruitment from Junior football (this represented his first dropping from the side since he was taken on full time).
  • Burns, Filippi, and Glavin were all carrying knocks after the League Cup win against Dundee.
  • Jock Stein accepted the manager's job at Leeds Utd. This took him back to football where he should always have been and which the Celticx Board had tried to sideline him into finance and merchandising. However the Leeds Utd job at this time was a little bit of a poisoned chalice and Stein had not been first choice, Done Howe ex-Arsenal manager had turned the job down.
  • The Reserves played at Tynecastle drawing 1-1 with Bernie Godzik scoring. The team was Baines, Ward (McGrain), Russell, Mackie, Newman, Conroy, Godzik, Lumsden, Craig, Dowie, O'Donnell. Sub: Weir. The Nerwman at centre half was either Jim Duffy or David Young.

Review

Celtic continue their fine early form. Tommy Burns now said to be close to a Scotland call up after his great recent displays and Alfie Conn crowns a fine performance with a peach of a floated free kick. Hearts were disappointing.
Celtic started well with a goal from McAdam in eight minutes. A free kick from Lynch was headed back by MacDonald and McAdam rose to head home. Tommy Burns soon added a second with a fierce shot. Hearts played out the half content to defend and foul.
The second half played out with Hearts a lttle more active on the attacking and fouling front but before the ends Alfie Conn latched onto a defensive mistake for the third and then cooly finshed with a lobbed free kick.
